My decision to purchase a small second home in Panama is looking like a very good decision. The U.S. is headed off a cliff. Great article, Bruce.Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03688916120823456491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2992740250270600844.post-50143431915040286592021-02-08T17:04:26.103-08:002021-02-08T17:04:26.103-08:00Yep, you see this trend at Walmart for example whe...Yep, you see this trend at Walmart for example where there are fewer and fewer human cashiers and more and more self checkout machines. This trend towards automation has actually been in progress for decades. I hate to say it, but many American workers, especially in manufacturing but now across all sectors, have priced themselves out of a job. I knew a guy who made $30 an hour working at a Peterbuilt plant back in the mid-90s. The workers there frequently went on strike for one reason or another. The plant closed in 2008. Although I hate offshoring of our jobs, I also understand why owners and management finally get fed up with greedy employees and just move their operations to another country. Anyway, now the Left wants to bring in millions more unskilled and uneducated folks in order to get more votes so they can stay in power. There absolutely will not be enough decent paying jobs for everyone. Universal health care, guaranteed basic income, and a lot more public housing are coming to America soon. The question is: will the politicians pay for all this largess with greatly increased taxes, or just borrow more money from the central banks, or how about both? Earlier today I ran ...Rod, thanks for the comment.
Earlier today I ran across the term, "Destructive Recursion" which refers to the system that keeps feeding those back into itself who are destroying it. This is not a good thing but seems well entrenched.Bruce Wildshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10181323607060607040noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2992740250270600844.post-21490175191448076782021-02-07T08:58:22.300-08:002021-02-07T08:58:22.300-08:00Lenin, Stalin and Marx pretty much were on the sam...Lenin, Stalin and Marx pretty much were on the same page as these quotes are attributed to them:

"The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.
When it comes time to hang the capitalists, they will sell us the rope.
The last capitalist we hang shall be the one who sold us the rope."

Kind of ironic that this is basically playing out in the western world. Capitalism has turned into the "snake eating its own tail". Everything exist and is done for profit. Okay, I get it. No one wants to work for free. But it becomes self defeating when you put your client base out of business i.e. unemployed and want to sell them your goods. Amazon, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Office Depot, Home Depot, Loews, Target etc, have put out of business so many Mom and Pop shops who funneled its profits back into the community by employment.

Now the Big Box corporations are just looking to make as much as they can so its investors can be happy at the costs of its workers. So offshoring jobs just to increase profits and you wind up with the vast majority Americans who don't have enough to cover a $500 emergency expense. It's gotten to the point that Apple offers 24 month 0% financing on their phones. Car companies are now offering financing well past 72 months which means the car is no longer worth anything.

This will only get worse and my fear is that in the next 10-20 yrs the puppet masters pulling the strings will take care of that with a UBI (universal basic income). You will be a debt slave for the rest of your life.Rod Briggshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01892085143658761123noreply@blogger.com
