It's that simple. The new QE is because of this.historicushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12437514694747606554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2992740250270600844.post-75866446941821529222019-10-15T03:17:49.692-07:002019-10-15T03:17:49.692-07:00Just because countries have yet to pay a huge pric...Just because countries have yet to pay a huge price for MMT does not mean they won't soon be held accountable. I think the time is coming when they will be asked to pay for their sins. Supposedly it's to shore up the bank reserves, but the real question is: why, with a good economy, do the banks need another 240 billion dollars? Moreover, the Fed is going to purchase treasury bonds from the banks, so it is indirectly funding the govt. as well as keeping treasury interest rates low by creating artificial demand. I don't know what's going on here, but I do know that it can't go on forever. Certainly the politicians love the idea that instead of borrowing and incurring interest, they can simply have the central bank create money and give it to them to spend. Eventually we'll find out if modern monetary theory really works without seriously harming the economy and currency. Europe and Japan have been doing it for many years and they haven't collapsed, so who knows?Dave2020https://www.blogger.com/profile/15839510248960245602noreply@blogger.com
